Where are you from? Orwigsburg, PA. You're forgiven if you've never heard of it. If you sneeze when you enter it, you'll be on the other side by the time you open your eyes.
What do you do for work? I work as a location scout and manager in the entertainment industry. As a scout, I find the scripted locations and get the owners to permit 120 strangers to rampage through their property. As a manager, I turn those locations into as much of a controlled stage setup as possible, with all logistics and ad hoc infrastructure that demands. Most of my best stories involve bathrooms.
What’s your favorite potato? My Nonie's garlic mashed potato casserole, made with real instant potato flakes. Never forget where your people come from.
What show or series are you currently bingeing? I'm a pretty poor TV-viewer. I think the last series I watched to completion was We Own This City, and that was 4 years ago. Most of my time in front of the screen is spent watching movies. I recently saw All That Heaven Allows for the first time and was floored. Beautiful 50's technicolor melodrama with Jane Wyman and Rock Hudson. So I've been following up on the director's other films.
What movie, series, or TV show do you quote way too often? More of a reference, and it's pretty dark, but any time someone in my crew sees a pair of shoes sitting outside all by their lonesome, we'll take a pic and send it to the group chat saying "RIP Ray Brower," the kid who gets knocked out of his Keds in Stand By Me.
What’s the most random thing in your fridge or pantry right now? I opened my pantry to check and moths flew out. I think I need to go to the grocery store.
If you could do a partner WOD with anyone famous – who would it be? James McAvoy owes me $20. I’d be able to collect if he showed up.
How did you end up at CrossFit 2 Street? Really just proximity. I moved to Pennsport in '24 and came from Breaking Point Fitness, where I felt more or less comfortable. Felt even more at home here with the smaller class sizes. Though y'all gave me a scare when, only a month after joining, I got an email saying the future of the gym was up in the air. (editor’s note: we aren’t going anywhere!)
Advice for new CrossFit / BootCamp athletes…. Don't worry about how many plates others are putting on their bars. We're all at different levels and no one at this gym gives a flying fig about competition. Ooh, I should add figs to my shopping list.
What’s your proudest 2St accomplishment? Just sticking with it. I regret not taking care of myself earlier, and there were definitely some growing pains when I started. I legitimately couldn't move after my first class. But I started to look at it as an investment; money in the bank now pays dividends in the future. I actually get kinda cranky if I haven't worked out in a while.
